Incense

A picture of prayer rising to God

Incense was burned in the tabernacle and temple, its fragrant smoke rising upward. The psalmist prays, Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense — a picture of prayer ascending pleasingly to God.

In Revelation, the prayers of the saints are seen as incense before God's throne. It assures us that our prayers rise, are received, and are treasured by God.

Incense in Scripture

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
Psalm 141:2, KJV
