Light

God's presence, truth, and holiness

Light is God's first spoken word in creation — let there be light — and it runs through Scripture as the image of his presence, truth, and holiness. God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. His word is a lamp; his face shining upon us is blessing; and to walk in the light is to walk in fellowship with him and with one another.

Jesus said, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. And astonishingly, he turns to his followers and says, ye are the light of the world — light kindled from his own. The Bible ends in a city that needs no sun, for the Lamb is the light thereof: the darkness finally and forever put to flight.

Light in Scripture

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8:12, KJV
