The Book of Jude

Contend for the faith — a short, urgent call to stand firm, and a soaring closing blessing.

Overview

Jude is a short, urgent letter calling believers to contend for the faith against those who twist grace into a licence to sin. It is a bracing reminder that truth is worth defending.

Yet it ends on one of the most beautiful notes in the Bible: a doxology to the God who is able to keep us from falling and present us faultless before his glory with exceeding joy.

Key themes

Contend for the faith

Believers must earnestly defend the gospel once delivered to the saints.

Keep yourselves in God's love

Guard your own faith through prayer and God's word.

Kept by God

Ultimately God is able to keep us from falling — our security is in him.

Key verses from Jude

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Jude 1:24–25, KJV

One of Scripture's most beautiful closing blessings.

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Jude 1:20–21, KJV
