The Morning Psalm
Old Testament

The Book of Zechariah

Return and rejoice — visions of hope and clear glimpses of the coming King.

Overview

Zechariah encouraged the returned exiles to finish rebuilding the temple, through a series of vivid visions of God's plans. His message is one of hope: return to God, and he will return to you.

Zechariah is also richly Messianic, foreseeing the King coming humbly on a donkey — words fulfilled as Jesus entered Jerusalem.

Key themes

Return to God

God calls his people back with the promise that he will return to them.

Not by might

God's work is accomplished by his Spirit, not human strength.

The coming King

Zechariah foresees the humble King fulfilled in Jesus.
