Elisha was plowing his field when Elijah threw his mantle over him; he left everything and followed. When Elijah was taken, Elisha asked for a double portion of thy spirit — and received it, working twice as many recorded miracles as his master: healing waters, multiplying oil, raising the dead, cleansing Naaman's leprosy.
His name means God is salvation, and his ministry was one long demonstration of God's power to save and restore. Gentle where Elijah was fiery, he shows a different shape of the same faith.
Elisha is a soft, distinctive name, rising in popularity for its gentle sound and its story of inherited faith.

Elisha in the Bible
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
