Shiphrah was one of the two Hebrew midwives who, fearing God, defied Pharaoh's order to kill newborn Hebrew boys. Because of their courage, God dealt well with them and gave them households of their own.
Distinctive and strong, Shiphrah means beautiful and honours a woman of quiet, God-fearing bravery.
