Jehovah Rapha

The LORD Who Heals

Pronounced yeh-ho-VAH raf-AH

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
Exodus 15:26, KJV

Jehovah Rapha — “the LORD who heals” — is the name God gave himself just after leading Israel through the Red Sea. At bitter waters they could not drink, God made the water sweet, then declared, “I am the LORD that healeth thee.”

The Hebrew “rapha” means to heal, mend, or restore — to make whole what is broken. God claims this as part of who he is: not merely a God who sometimes heals, but the LORD who heals by nature.

His healing reaches every kind of brokenness — bodies, yes, but also bitter hearts, broken relationships, and wounded souls. The same God who sweetened the bitter water still restores what has gone bitter in us.

To call on Jehovah Rapha is to bring your wounds to the one who mends. Not every healing comes when or how we ask, but the healer himself is always near, and one day he will make all things whole.
