The Pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem was surrounded by the sick, hoping to be healed. There Jesus found a man who had been ill for thirty-eight years and, with a word, told him to rise, take up his bed, and walk — and he was made whole.
Bethesda shows Jesus seeking out the overlooked and the long-suffering, healing not by ritual but by his own authority and compassion.
