Deborah was a prophetess and the only female judge of Israel, sitting under her palm tree to settle the people's disputes. When the commander Barak would not go to battle without her, she went — and the enemy was routed. Her victory song in Judges 5 is one of the oldest poems in the Bible.
Her name means bee — busy, and with a sting for the enemies of God's people. She calls herself a mother in Israel, a leader of wisdom, courage, and worship.
Deborah is a strong, classic name — dignified and warmly shortened to Debbie or Deb.
Debbie, Deb, Debora, Devorah
