Esther was a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, who became queen of Persia — and then discovered a plot to destroy her people. Mordecai's challenge to her is one of Scripture's great turning points: who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Risking her life, she approached the king unbidden — if I perish, I perish — and delivered her people. Her name means star, and the feast of Purim still celebrates her courage. Her Hebrew name, Hadassah, means myrtle.
Esther is a luminous, vintage classic — graceful, brave, and beautifully timeless.

Esther in the Bible
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
