Joshua — Yehoshua, the LORD is salvation — is the same name as Jesus in its Greek form. He was Moses' faithful assistant, one of only two spies who trusted God to give Israel the land, and Moses' appointed successor. God's charge to him has strengthened the fearful ever since: be strong and of a good courage... for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
He led Israel across the Jordan, around Jericho, and into the inheritance — and ended his life with a challenge still quoted at every crossroads: as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua has been one of the most popular boys' names for a generation — sturdy, faithful, and easily shortened to Josh.

Joshua in the Bible
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
