Martha of Bethany is often remembered for being cumbered about much serving while her sister Mary sat at Jesus' feet — and for the gentle rebuke, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things. But there is far more to her.
At the grave of her brother Lazarus, it was Martha who gave one of the New Testament's clearest confessions of faith: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God. Her name means lady or mistress of the house — a woman of action and, in the end, of deep belief.
Martha is a warm, vintage classic — homely in the best sense, sturdy and kind.
