Thomas is remembered for doubting — he would not believe the resurrection until he touched the wounds — but the Bible is kinder to him than his nickname. Earlier, when the others feared to return to dangerous Judea, it was Thomas who said, let us also go, that we may die with him.
And when the risen Jesus offered him the very proof he'd demanded, Thomas gave the highest confession in the Gospels: my Lord and my God. Jesus' reply — blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed — was spoken for every believer since.
Thomas is a warm, enduring classic — steady and beloved, shortened affectionately to Tom or Tommy.
