6 Bible Verses About Work (For the Job You Have, Not the One You Dreamed Of)

Most work is unglamorous — done again Monday, unnoticed Tuesday, and rarely what you'd have chosen at eighteen. Scripture never looks down on that; it dignifies ordinary labour more than any modern career book, and speaks plainly about bosses, effort, and what work is actually for. Six verses for the working week.
1. The audience change
Written originally to workers whose labour would never be fairly credited. The revolution isn't a better job — it's a better Audience. Nothing done "as to the Lord" is wasted on a manager who didn't see.
2. For the anxious project
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
The order is the surprise: commit the work, and the thinking settles. Most 3 a.m. work-churn is unsurrendered work — plans still wholly self-owned. Hand over the outcomes; keep the effort.
3. For wholeheartedness
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Blunt, in Ecclesiastes' way: working days are numbered, so spend them at full strength rather than half-attention. Whatever your hand finds — including the task you think is beneath you — is the assignment.
4. For work that outlasts you
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
Moses' prayer — establish the work of our hands, asked twice, because every worker knows the fear that it all washes away. Only God makes work permanent; asking Him to is a working man's daily prayer.
5. For skill and its rewards
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
Diligence gets noticed eventually — the proverb has watched it happen for three thousand years. Craftsmanship is a testimony long before it's a promotion.
6. For the rest that work can't give
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Addressed to labourers, by name. Work was never designed to be your identity's load-bearing wall — and the rest underneath a working life is given, not earned at the desk.
