Bible Verses for Difficult Times

Everyone faces difficult times — seasons of loss, struggle, fear, or pain. In those seasons, God's Word offers more than distraction; it offers real comfort, strength, and hope. Here are Bible verses to hold on to in difficult times.
God is with you in it
The deepest comfort is God's presence in the trouble, not just beyond it: 'When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee... when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned.' God doesn't always spare us the hard road, but he walks it with us.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
God works even this for good
When we can't make sense of our suffering, this promise holds: 'all things work together for good to them that love God.' Not that hard things are good, but that God can weave even them into a good purpose we may not yet see.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
A refuge and present help
In trouble, God is not distant but near: 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.' He is a shelter we can run into and a strength for exactly the moment we're weak.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Peace in a troubled world
Jesus was honest that life would be hard, but promised peace through it: 'In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.' Our trouble is real, but our Saviour is greater than all of it.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
For difficult times, the Bible assures us that God is with us in the trouble, that he can work even this for good, that he is our refuge and very present help, and that in Christ we can have peace because he has overcome the world. When life is hard, hold on to these words. You are not alone, your suffering is not wasted, and the God who is with you is greater than what you face.
