Bible Verses for Protection (God Our Refuge)

When we or those we love face danger or fear, we long for protection and safety. The Bible is full of the language of shelter — God as refuge, fortress, and shield. Here are Bible verses for protection to hold on to.
Under the shadow of the Almighty
The great psalm of protection begins: 'He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.' Those who make God their refuge dwell under his very shadow — sheltered, close, and safe.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
The Lord preserves you
This promise covers all of life: 'The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in.' God's watchful care surrounds our every coming and going, now and always.
The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
A strong tower
God himself is our place of safety: 'The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.' In danger and fear, we can run to God and find refuge.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
Kept from evil
Even against unseen dangers, God keeps his people: 'But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.' His faithfulness is our security when we cannot protect ourselves.
But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
For protection, the Bible points us to God as our refuge, fortress, and strong tower — the one who shelters us under his shadow, preserves our going out and coming in, and keeps us from evil. To ask for protection is to remember who keeps us. Take sensible care, then rest: the One who never sleeps watches over those he loves, and you can run to him and be safe.
