Bible Verses for When You Can't Sleep

Sleepless nights are hard — lying awake with a racing mind, worries looming larger in the dark. In those hours, God's Word brings comfort and calm. Here are Bible verses for when you can't sleep, to help you rest in his care.
Lie down in peace
This verse is a gift for the wakeful: 'I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.' Rest comes not from having everything sorted, but from trusting that God keeps us safe through the night.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
He gives sleep to His beloved
When we lie awake striving and worrying, this verse reminds us to rest: 'It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.' Sleep is a gift God gives; we can stop striving and receive it.
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
He sustains you through the night
The psalmist knew what it was to rest in God's keeping: 'I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.' Even as you sleep, God is watching over you and sustaining you. You can rest because he never does.
I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
Cast your worries on Him
Often it's worry that steals our sleep, so hand it over: 'Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.' Give God the worries keeping you awake — they're safe in his hands, and you can let them go.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
When you can't sleep, let these verses quiet your heart: God makes you dwell in safety, he gives sleep to those he loves, he sustains you through the night, and he invites you to cast your worries on him. Instead of wrestling with your racing thoughts, hand them to God and rest in his care. You are safe, you are watched over, and you can lie down in peace.
