Start with a set time

Consistency loves a schedule. Vague intentions to 'pray more' rarely survive a busy week. Pick a specific time — morning coffee, lunch break, commute, bedtime — and attach prayer to it. A regular slot turns prayer from something you hope to fit in into something you simply do.

Keep it realistic

Don't start with an hour you'll never sustain. Begin with five honest minutes. A short prayer time you actually keep will build into more, whereas an ambitious plan usually collapses into guilt. Small and consistent beats big and abandoned.

Have a simple structure

A blank slate can make prayer feel awkward. A gentle structure helps — many find the old pattern useful: adoration (praising God), confession (owning your wrongs), thanksgiving (naming gratitude), and supplication (bringing your requests). It's a scaffold, not a straitjacket.

Use tools that help

A prayer list or journal keeps you focused and lets you see answered prayers over time, which fuels faith. Praying through a psalm gives you words when your own run dry. Some pray out loud, some write; find what keeps you engaged rather than drifting.

Pray throughout the day too

Consistency isn't only about a set quiet time. 'Pray without ceasing' points to a running conversation with God through the day — quick prayers in the moment, thanks for small mercies, help in the hard patches. This keeps prayer woven into life, not boxed into one slot.

Don't quit when you miss

You'll have off days and dry spells. The key is not to let a missed day become a lost habit. When you slip, simply begin again without guilt. God isn't keeping a scorecard; He's glad whenever you turn to Him.

A consistent prayer life is built the way any habit is — small, regular, anchored, and forgiving of slip-ups. Pick a time, keep it simple, use what helps, and just keep coming back. Over time, prayer stops being a discipline you force and becomes a lifeline you'd hate to be without.
