How to Share Your Testimony (Telling Your Story)

1 October 2025 · 2 min read · Understanding the Bible

One of the most powerful things you can share with someone is your testimony — your own story of what God has done in your life. You don't need to be a trained speaker; you just need to tell your story. Here's a simple guide to sharing your testimony.

Why your story matters

No one can argue with your personal experience. The Bible calls us to 'be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.' Your story of hope is compelling precisely because it's real and yours.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
1 Peter 3:15, KJV

A simple structure

A helpful way to frame your testimony is in three parts: what your life was like before you knew God, how you came to faith, and what has changed since. This simple before-and-after structure keeps your story clear and focused on God's work.

Keep it honest and humble

Your testimony doesn't need to be dramatic to be powerful; it needs to be honest. Share genuinely, including ongoing struggles — that makes it relatable. Keep the focus on what God has done, not on your own achievements, and share 'with meekness,' not pressure.

Make Jesus the hero

The point of your testimony isn't to make yourself look good, but to point people to Jesus. However your story goes, let him be the hero — the one who found you, changed you, and gives you hope. Your life becomes a signpost pointing to him.

Sharing your testimony simply means telling your story of what God has done — before, how, and since — honestly, humbly, and with Jesus as the hero. You don't need eloquence or a dramatic tale; you need your real story of hope. It's one of the most natural and powerful ways to point others to God, and it's a story only you can tell.
