Overcoming Discouragement

Discouragement comes to everyone — that heavy, deflated feeling when we're worn down, disappointed, or tempted to give up. Left unchecked, it drains our strength and hope. Here's how to overcome discouragement with God's help.
Take courage from God's presence
The Bible's answer to discouragement is often God's presence and promise: 'Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.' Courage comes not from within, but from remembering that God is with us.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Don't grow weary
Discouragement tempts us to quit just before the breakthrough. Scripture urges perseverance: 'let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.' The harvest comes in due time to those who don't give up. Keep going.
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Renewed strength as you wait
When you're worn down, God offers renewed strength: 'they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.' You don't have to summon energy from empty reserves; God renews the strength of those who lean on him. Rest in him, and rise again.
Overcoming discouragement means taking courage from God's presence, refusing to grow weary and give up, and finding renewed strength as we wait on the Lord. Discouragement is real, but it doesn't get the final word. When you're deflated and tempted to quit, remember God is with you, the harvest comes to those who persevere, and he will renew your strength. Don't give up — keep going with God.
