6 Questions Every New Christian Asks (Gentle, Honest Answers)

Every new believer carries a pocketful of questions they're slightly embarrassed to ask — convinced everyone else already knows. Here are six of the most common, with the plain answers longer-travelled Christians would give you over a coffee.

1. "Am I doing this right?"

Almost certainly yes, because the entry requirements are deliberately simple: trust Jesus, follow honestly. There is no secret protocol you missed. The feeling of amateurishness is universal and, honestly, never entirely goes away — the oldest saints still describe themselves as beginners. If you're reading, praying clumsily, and wanting to grow, you're doing it right.

2. "Why don't I feel different?"

Feelings lag facts — sometimes by months. Some people get a dramatic before-and-after; many get a slow dawn, so gradual they doubt it's happening. Scripture's own word for what you now are is fact-language, not feeling-language:

Is — present tense, true on the days you feel nothing. Watch for the slow evidence instead: what you want is quietly changing, and that's the deep change.

3. "What happens when I sin again?"

Not if — when. The provision is already in place, and it's one verse long:

Confess means say it plainly to God — no grovelling season required. The only real danger is hiding, because hiding is the one move that stalls everything. Fail, confess, walk on. That loop is the normal Christian life, not the failure of it.

4. "Do I have to read the whole Bible now?"

5. "Do I need to go to church?"

Need is the wrong frame — you'll want what it gives you, eventually if not immediately: people further down the road, someone to call in the hard week, faith at more than arm's length. The faith was designed to be practised in company. Take your time finding a good one (warmth toward newcomers matters more than polish), but don't design a permanently solo Christianity; nobody's held together by podcasts forever.

6. "How do I know God actually hears me?"

Because He said so, in the plainest terms: the LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. The only qualifier is honesty. You will have seasons where prayer feels like talking to the ceiling — everyone does — and the promise holds through them on His word, not your reception bars. Keep calling; the nearness doesn't fluctuate.
