The Christian Man and His Work (Faith for the Nine to Five)
25 June 2026 · 2 min read
A man spends the majority of his waking life at work, yet many Christians treat their job as a spiritually neutral zone — the real faith stuff happening at church on Sunday. Scripture tells a bigger story: your work matters to God, and faith transforms how you do it.
Work is God's idea
Work isn't a result of the fall; it came before it. God worked to create, and He placed the first man in the garden 'to dress it and to keep it.' Work is part of being made in God's image. That reframes the daily grind — you're not just earning a living; you're reflecting a working God.
Your real boss
Scripture tells servants to work 'as to the Lord, and not unto men.' However demanding or thankless your job, your ultimate employer is God. That changes everything — the quality of your work becomes an act of worship, whether or not anyone notices or thanks you.
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men
Integrity when no one's watching
The workplace is where a man's character gets tested daily — honesty on the expense report, integrity in the deal, how you treat those below you. Christian faith isn't just for the weekend; it shows up most in the unglamorous, unseen ethics of Monday to Friday.
Work as a mission field
Your colleagues may never step into a church, but they see you five days a week. Your steadiness under pressure, your kindness, your integrity — these preach quietly. For many men, the workplace is the most significant ministry they'll ever have.
Keeping work in its place
At the same time, work isn't everything. It's a good servant and a bad master. A man who lets his job swallow his family, his health, and his walk with God has let a good thing become an idol. Work hard, but hold it with open hands.
Bring your faith to work on Monday. Do your job with integrity and excellence, treat people well, keep it in its proper place — and let the God who invented work give meaning to your nine to five.
