The Love of God: A Love That Never Lets Go
1 November 2025 · 2 min read · Understanding the Bible
If the Bible could be summed up in one theme, it might be this: the love of God. From beginning to end, it tells the story of a God who loves relentlessly. Here's what Scripture reveals about the love of God.
Love that gives
God's love is not passive sentiment but self-giving action. 'For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.' Real love, in the Bible, is measured by what it gives up — and God gave what was most precious to him, to rescue us. His love is proven at the cross.
Love we didn't earn
God's love isn't a response to our goodness; it comes to us before we deserve it. 'While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.' We don't earn this love by being lovable; God sets his love on us freely, as a gift. That's what makes it grace.
Love that won't let go
Perhaps the most staggering truth is that nothing can separate us from it. 'Neither death, nor life... nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.' There is nothing you could do, and nothing that could happen, to place you beyond his love.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Love that changes us
To be loved like this changes everything. It gives us worth, security, and a love to pass on. 'We love him, because he first loved us.' Resting in God's love is the ground of a settled, generous life.
The love of God is the heartbeat of the Bible — a love that gives sacrificially, comes to us undeserved, refuses to let us go, and transforms us. Whatever you've done or however far you've wandered, you are loved by God more deeply than you know. Nothing can separate you from that love, and everything changes when you rest in it.
