The Promises of God: Strength for the Weary

7 May 2025 · 1 min read · Verse Collections

God's strength promises are addressed, notably, to the exhausted: he giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Weakness is not the disqualification — it is the delivery address.

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:29–31, KJV

Wait, and mount up

Even the youths shall faint — natural strength has a ceiling. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles. The exchange happens in the waiting: our depletion traded for his supply.

The daily version is Deuteronomy's: as thy days, so shall thy strength be — issued per day, matched to the day, never banked in advance and never short on arrival.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9, KJV

Strength made perfect in weakness

Paul asked three times for the thorn's removal and received something better: my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. The weak place became the display case. Most gladly therefore, he concluded, will I glory in my infirmities.

Bring God your empty, not your impressive. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me was written by a man in chains — the promise works at every strength level, especially none.
