The Resurrection of Jesus: He Is Risen
19 April 2025 · 1 min read · Understanding the Bible
The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the entire Christian faith and the source of our greatest hope. On the third day after his crucifixion, the tomb was empty and death was defeated. Here's what happened and why it matters.
The empty tomb
On the first Easter morning, women came to Jesus' tomb and found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. An angel announced the greatest news in history: 'He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.' Jesus had conquered death and risen bodily from the grave.
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Seen by many
The risen Jesus appeared to his followers many times over the following weeks — to individuals, to groups, even to more than five hundred at once. He ate with them, was touched, and spoke with them. These weren't visions but real, physical encounters that transformed frightened disciples into fearless witnesses.
Why it matters
The resurrection vindicates everything Jesus claimed and accomplished. It proves his death really did pay for sin, that he is the Son of God, and that death no longer has the final word. His resurrection is the guarantee of ours — the promise that those who trust him will also live.
The resurrection of Jesus is the triumphant heart of the Christian hope: the tomb was empty, death was defeated, and Jesus is alive. Witnessed by many and confirmed by transformed lives, it proves his claims and secures our future. Because he lives, we too shall live. The message that has echoed for two thousand years remains the best news in the world: He is risen.
