Trusting God With Your Future

22 February 2025 · 2 min read · Understanding the Bible

The future is one of the biggest sources of worry — the unknowns, the decisions, the fear of what might come. But the Bible calls us to entrust our future to a God who already holds it. Here's how to trust God with your future.

Your future is in good hands

The foundation of trust is knowing who holds tomorrow: 'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.' Whatever lies ahead, it's held by a God whose plans for you are good.

Trust rather than lean on yourself

Trusting God with the future means releasing the need to figure it all out ourselves: 'Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.' We don't need to see the whole road; we just need to trust the One who does.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5–6, KJV

One step at a time

God rarely shows us the whole future; he gives light for the next step. Rather than being paralysed by the unknown, we can take the next faithful step and trust God to lead as we go. His guidance usually comes one step at a time, not as a finished map.

Trusting God with your future means resting in the knowledge that your future is in his good hands, releasing the need to figure everything out yourself, and taking the next step in faith. You cannot control or foresee what's ahead, but God can — and his plans for you are good. Hand him the unknown, and walk forward one trusting step at a time, led by the God who holds tomorrow.
