Walking in Integrity (Who You Are in the Dark)

18 February 2025 · 1 min read · Understanding the Bible

Integrity has been described as who you are when no one is watching — a wholeness of character where your private self matches your public one. It's a quality God prizes and blesses. Here's what walking in integrity means.

A life that walks surely

The Bible commends integrity as a stable, secure way to live: 'He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.' Integrity gives us a clear conscience and a firm footing, while a double life eventually catches up with us. Honesty is the surer path.

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
Proverbs 10:9, KJV

Consistent, not two-faced

Integrity means being the same person in every setting — not one thing in public and another in private, not saying one thing and doing another. It's a wholeness and consistency of character that people can trust. Our conduct in the dark reveals who we really are.

Integrity in the small things

Integrity is built and revealed in small things — keeping our word, being honest when a lie would be easier, doing right when no one would know. These small, unseen choices form our character over time. Faithfulness in little things is the foundation of a life of integrity.

Walking in integrity means being the same person in the dark as in the light — honest, consistent, and trustworthy, especially in the small, unseen things. It gives us a clear conscience and firm footing, and it reflects the God of truth we serve. Integrity isn't flashy, but it's precious and blessed. Pursue it in the little things, and build a life that walks surely.
