A bruised reed

14 July 2026 · 1 min read

A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
Isaiah 42:3, KJV

A bruised reed is easy to snap; smoking flax is easier to snuff than to fan. Isaiah says the Servant of the LORD will do neither. Where we are weakest, he is most careful.

Perhaps you come to this morning bruised — by loss, by failure, by simple exhaustion. The world tends to discard what is damaged. Jesus does not. He binds up, he shelters the flicker, he coaxes the flame.

You do not need to present strength to him today. Bring the bruise. He is famously gentle with those.
