God our refuge
By Niall Florence · 12 August 2026 · 1 min read
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
Moses' final blessing gathers everything into one line: the eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. Israel had wandered forty years; their true address had never changed.
Underneath — that is the word to keep. However far something falls today, the everlasting arms are lower still. There is no bottom beneath which God is absent.
Homesickness of the soul has one cure, and it is not circumstances. It is dwelling in the God who has been home to his people in every generation.
