James is wonderfully blunt: be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. It is possible to consume Scripture daily and be changed by none of it.
His picture is a man glancing in a mirror and forgetting his own face. Reading without doing is exactly that — information without adjustment.
So take one thing from this morning's reading and do it before noon: the apology, the generosity, the truth-telling. One obeyed verse outweighs ten admired ones.
