Before the day speaks

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
The first voice you hear most mornings is your own — the list-maker, the worrier, rehearsing the day before it has properly started. David chose a different first word. Before the day could speak to him, he spoke to God.
There is no formula in this verse, only a direction: upward, and early. A single sentence is enough. The point is not eloquence but order — who gets your morning first.
And then the quiet phrase at the end: and will look up. This is prayer that expects. Say your piece, then watch the day for the answer.
