Wisdom for the asking

By Niall Florence · 20 August 2026 · 1 min read

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 1:5, KJV

James assumes you will run short of wisdom — if any of you lack — and gives the remedy: ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not.

Upbraideth not: he does not roll his eyes at the question. Many of us hesitate to ask for guidance twice, as if God tires of us. James says the opposite — the asking is welcomed, the giving is liberal.

Whatever decision sits on your desk today, take it to him first, plainly. It shall be given him is not a maybe.
