On the night before the cross, Jesus made a kind of will: peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. Facing the worst night in history, he had peace to spare — and he left it to us.
It is specifically his peace. Not the world's version, which depends on circumstances behaving. His held steady through betrayal and trial, and that is the strain of peace bequeathed to you.
Let not your heart be troubled: not a scolding, but an invitation to collect an inheritance. The peace is already yours; the receiving is today's part.
