The joy of the LORD
By Niall Florence · 23 July 2026 · 1 min read
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
The people had just heard the law read aloud and were weeping under its weight. Nehemiah's response is unexpected: go feast, share with those who have nothing — for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
Notice whose joy it is: the LORD's. Not your ability to feel cheerful, but his gladness — over rescue, over his people, over you — becomes the strength you stand on.
Some mornings you cannot generate joy. You do not have to. You draw it, like water, from a well that is his.
