Nahum is a short, thunderous book — and in the middle of the thunder stands this: the LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Two things hold together: he is good, and he is strong. Goodness without strength could only sympathise; strength without goodness could not be trusted. In God, shelter and kindness are the same wall.
And he knoweth them that trust in him — personally, by name. In the day of trouble you are not an anonymous refugee. You are known at the gate.
