The Morning Psalm
Daily

The day you were given

By Niall Florence · 8 July 2026 · 1 min read

This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24, KJV

It is easy to read this verse as a demand to be cheerful. It is gentler than that. The psalmist is not telling you to manufacture joy; he is telling you where the day came from.

This day — the ordinary one in front of you, with its inbox and its dishes and its small worries — was made. It was given. Rejoicing begins not with pretending everything is fine, but with noticing that the day itself arrived without your help, and arrived as a gift.

You will not love every hour of it. You can still be glad in it — the way you can be glad in a warm house while the weather does what it wants outside.
