Where help comes from

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
This psalm was written for travellers — pilgrims on the long road up to Jerusalem, watching the hills for weather and for trouble. The first line is an honest question everyone on a hard road eventually asks: where is help going to come from?
The answer is not “from the hills.” The hills are just scenery; some days they are the obstacle itself. Help comes from the One who made the hills — and the heavens, and the earth, and the road, and you.
Whatever you are walking toward today, you will glance up at something and measure your chances. Let the glance keep travelling — past the problem, past the scenery, to the Maker of all of it. That is where help comes from.
