Rest for the heavily burdened

8 July 2026 · 1 min read

Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28, WEB

Some invitations ask you to bring your best. This one asks you to bring your worst — the labour, the load, the tiredness you have stopped mentioning because it never seems to change.

Jesus does not say sort yourself out first, then come. The coming is the whole instruction. Rest, here, is not a technique to master but a person to walk toward.

You may not be able to put the burden down all at once. Come anyway, carrying it. The promise is not that the load was imaginary — it is that you will not carry it alone, and that rest is given, not achieved.
