The Morning Psalm
Hebrew word

Yeshua

salvation; 'the LORD saves' — the name behind Jesus

Say yeh-SHOO-ah

Yeshua is the Hebrew name that comes into English, through Greek, as Jesus. It is built on the word for salvation and means the LORD saves — which is precisely why the angel told Joseph to give the child this name: thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. The name is the mission.

The related word yeshuah appears throughout the Old Testament for salvation and deliverance — the LORD is my strength and my yeshuah. Every ancient cry for rescue was, in a sense, reaching toward the child who would bear the name in person. To speak the name of Jesus is to speak a two-word gospel: the LORD saves.

Yeshua in Scripture

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Matthew 1:21, KJV
