Zoe is the New Testament word for life in its fullest sense — not merely biological existence, but the very life of God shared with us. Jesus came that we might have zoe, and have it more abundantly. This life is qualitatively different: it is eternal not only in length but in kind, beginning now for those who believe and never ending.
John's Gospel is saturated with zoe: in Christ was life, and the life was the light of men; he is the bread of life, the resurrection and the life. To have the Son is to have this life; to be without him is to lack it. Zoe is God's answer to death — the abundant, unending life he freely gives.
Zoe in Scripture
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
