Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
“I am the light of the world,” Jesus said, “he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” In a dark world, he claims to be the light that shows us the way.
Light does two things: it reveals and it guides. Jesus reveals the truth about God and about ourselves, and he guides our steps through a world where it is otherwise easy to lose our way.
The promise is for those who follow: to walk with Jesus is to walk in light, no longer stumbling in the dark. His light does not merely shine around us but becomes “the light of life” within us.
Whatever darkness you face — confusion, despair, the shadow of grief — the Light of the World shines into it. Follow him, and the darkness cannot finally hold you.
