For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
“Prince of Peace” is one of four titles Isaiah gives the promised child: “For unto us a child is born... and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
A prince rules, and this Prince rules over peace. He does not merely wish us peace or point the way to it; he reigns to establish it — peace with God, and in time, peace across all creation.
The peace he brings is not fragile or temporary. Isaiah says “of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end.” It is a peace that grows and never runs out.
In a restless, anxious world, the Prince of Peace offers a peace the world cannot give. He made peace between us and God at the cross, and he reigns to fill our hearts with it now.
