Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
“I am the resurrection, and the life,” Jesus told Martha at her brother's grave. “He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” Then, to prove it, he called Lazarus out of the tomb.
Jesus does not say he brings resurrection or explains it; he says he is the resurrection. Life beyond death is not a doctrine he teaches but a power he embodies — and soon would demonstrate in his own rising.
For everyone who has stood at a graveside, this name is precious beyond words. Death, the last enemy, does not have the final say for those who belong to Jesus. He holds life on the other side of it.
Because he lives, those who trust him will live. The Resurrection and the Life turns the grave from a full stop into a doorway, and offers hope that outlasts even death.
