Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Jesus spoke these words to a troubled disciple who asked how they could know the way to God.
He is the Way — the road to the Father, not merely a signpost but the path itself. He is the Truth — reliable, without error, the reality about God made known. And he is the Life — the source of the eternal life he gives.
Notice Jesus does not say he shows the way or teaches the truth; he says he is these things. Christianity is not finally a set of ideas but a person, in whom the way, truth, and life all meet.
This name is exclusive and wonderfully inclusive at once: there is one way to the Father, and that way is thrown wide open to everyone who comes through Jesus.
