I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet — Christ's way of saying he encompasses everything, from A to Z.
To be the first and the last is to stand before all things and after all things. Jesus was there at creation and will be there at the end; nothing exists outside the span of his reign.
This name gives history a shape and a destination. Time is not an aimless line but held between Christ's beginning and Christ's end — and both ends are safe in his hands.
When the future feels uncertain, the Alpha and Omega reassures us that he already stands at the end, waiting. The one who began all things will also finish them, and finish them well.
