Bible Verses About Hard Times

Scripture for trials, trouble, and the seasons that test us — verses for when life is hard.

The Bible never pretends that life will be easy. It promises trouble plainly — and then promises, just as plainly, that God will be present in it and will not waste it.

These verses are for the hard season you may be in right now. You are held, even here.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28, KJV

Not that all things are good — but that God works them together for good.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Isaiah 43:2, KJV
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
James 1:2–3, KJV
Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
Psalm 34:19, KJV
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33, KJV

Jesus does not promise a life without trouble — he promises to be greater than it.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
2 Corinthians 4:17, KJV
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1–2, KJV

Hard times are not evidence that God has forgotten you. Over and over, Scripture shows him nearest in the fire and the flood — walking through it beside his people, and bringing them out.
