Bible Verses About Wisdom

Scripture on wisdom and understanding — where it comes from, and how to ask for it.

Wisdom, in the Bible, is not the same as intelligence. It is the skill of living well in the fear of God — and, remarkably, it is something he offers to give freely to anyone who asks.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 1:5, KJV

Wisdom is not earned but asked for — and freely given.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Proverbs 9:10, KJV
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
Proverbs 3:13, KJV
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:6, KJV
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Proverbs 4:7, KJV
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
James 3:17, KJV
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7, KJV

If you need wisdom for a decision today, the invitation is plain: ask. God gives it generously, and without finding fault.
