A Prayer for Wisdom
Before a decision — asking the God who gives wisdom liberally and never scolds.
You are one honest request away from the wisdom of God. He gives liberally, James says, and upbraideth not — he will not roll his eyes at your asking.
The prayer
Father, I lack wisdom, and you invite me to say so. Here is my decision, laid out before you — you see every side of it, including the sides hidden from me.
Give me your wisdom: to see clearly, weigh honestly, and want your will more than my preference.
Close wrong doors firmly, even if I am leaning on them. Open the right one, and give me peace as the confirmation.
I would rather walk your path slowly than my own path fast. Guide me, and I will go. Amen.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
It shall be given him — the verse's promise has no fine print. Ask, then act on the light you receive.
