A Prayer for Worry
For the mind that will not stop turning — trading anxious thoughts for peace.
Worry runs the same anxious loops long past bedtime. This prayer is for the turning mind — a way of casting the care where it belongs, and receiving peace in its place.
The prayer
Father, my mind will not stop turning, borrowing trouble from a tomorrow that may never come. I bring the whole tangle to you.
You invite me to cast all my care on you, because you care for me. So I do — I hand you the list, one worry at a time, and ask you to carry what I cannot.
Teach me to take today only, as you taught me to ask for daily bread. Keep me from rehearsing disasters, and set my mind on what is true and good.
Guard my heart and mind with the peace that passes understanding — the peace the world cannot give and my circumstances cannot explain. Amen.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you — worry is a weight we were never built to carry, and an invitation to hand it over.
