An old mercy for every departure: the LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in. Pray it over the journey — yours, or someone you love.
The prayer
Father, keep us on this journey. Watch the roads and the skies, the drivers and the pilots, the crossings and the connections.
Preserve our going out and our coming in. Bring us to the right places at the right times, and bring us home again to the people who wait for us.
Make us alert where we need to be and calm where we cannot help. Put your angels round the vehicle and your peace inside it.
And on the way, give us eyes for the good you scatter along roads — kind strangers, new mercies, glimpses of your world. Amen.
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
From this time forth, and even for evermore — the keeping does not end at the destination.
